Bio

Dr. Srinivasa Subramaniam is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Florida Atlantic University (FAU), where he is also affiliated with the FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute, the David and Lynn Nicholson Center for Neuroscience Research, and the Center for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. He earned his Ph.D. in Natural Sciences (summa cum laude) from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and completed postdoctoral training in the Solomon Snyder lab at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Subramaniam’s research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration, with an emphasis on brain-enriched proteins that regulate movement, cognition, and cell survival. His lab is known for pioneering work on the striatal-specific protein Rhes, showing its role in tunneling nanotube (TNT) formation and the intercellular spread of mutant huntingtin (mHTT) in Huntington’s disease. He has also made key discoveries in translational regulation, SUMOylation, and mTOR signaling pathways in neurons. Dr. Subramaniam has received numerous honors, including the Alzheimer’s Association International Research Award, Daniel Nathan’s Research Award, and was an invited young scientist at the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting. He actively mentors’ students and postdocs, serves on NIH review panels, and is committed to advancing translational neuroscience. Outside the lab, he enjoys running, pickle ball, sketching, music, and poetry.
